The War on Drugs (and Indie Rock)

It has recently come to my attention that a Certain anti drug group has bad mouthed indie rock in their new ad. This ad is one the most insensitive bigoted ad I have herd of all year (it's a close second to the ads that the Republican's were running in Tennessee). This ad is a disgrace and it makes me want to vomit with rage. Here is the offensive ad's script:

JENNY:

(Computer Voice) Being popular was all I could think about last year. I wanted to, like, be cool with everybody. I listened to music that I didn't like and laughed at stuff that wasn't funny. I programmed myself to be a totally different person to everyone.

SFX:

Computer voice starts to change into a real human voice.

JENNY:

But I wasn't myself. Now I'm not pretending to like indie rock or anything like that. And people think that's cool.

TEEN VO:

Live above the influence. Above weed. Check out ***************.com. Sponsored by the ********* and the Partnership For A Drug-Free America.

(I have wiped out the name for I do not wish to promote this hate group)

Now this ad brings up numerous questions but most importantly it brings up the question of what is this mystical influence? Is this ad not an influence trying to keep kids from smoking weed? And what makes this ad any better than peer pressure telling kids to smoke weed? Is it because the government puts out the ad? Whoa I meant to pose just one question but instead I posed many more, but how about just one last question well no its a theory really. Isn't it possible the government is only putting this ad out so kids will drink lots of Pepsi instead of smoking weed?

Show in Houston gets broken up by cops

On Friday the indie band Two Gallants played a show at the club Walter's on Washington. Why is this significant? Because police officers broke up the show and tasered several band members and a 14 year old fan. The police officer said that he received a complaint that the music was too loud so he went in to tell the band to turn the music down. He says they did but as soon as he left the music was back at the original volume. The officer says he went back into the club he was attacked. The lead singer of the opening band, Adam Stephens say that the officer attacked him. What really happened is as of now unclear so stay tuned for more details.

Big Dinosaur Jr/Sebadoh news

For those of you who don't know Dinosaur Jr are a legendary indie rock band from Massachusetts who played notoriously loud live shows. They are also one of my favorite bands. In 1988 guitarist/lead singer J Mascis kicked bassist Lou Barlow out of the band. Barlow then formed his own band Sebadoh who became equally legendary (not so noisy). Now the news: Barlow has informed the world via his website that Sebadoh will reunite with their III era lineup. He also informed the world that Dinosaur Jr's long awaited live DVD will come be coming out May 8th also Dinosaur Jr will release a new album sometime around the same time. It should be a fun spring.
