Back

Hello all with summer coming to a close I'm back home for good (well as good as its gonna get). So, does anyone know what Mr. Randolph's deal is? While I was looking for the summer reading list I found a staff list and it had Mr. Randolph on it, but it also had Ms. Alicino. So it either hasn't been updated in two years or they are both coming back, and I think it's probably the former.

Also in light of recent posts I think it should be noted that Animal Collective are coming to the Avalon on September 5th. I will probably be attending said event.

GB update

Gogol Bordello is playing two shows in New York (Irving Plaza) on July 20 and 21. The details need to be worked out but the chinatown buses seem like the best bet so far. If anyone wants to go, tell me soon so I can get tickets.

Fastfoward to October: they're playing a full U.S. tour and Boston is almost certain to be part of it.

More details to follow soon.

By the way, their new album, Super Taranta, is due out July 10th, 07. If you want it, preorder it on interpunk.com to get a free shirt or on sideonedummy.com for a free poster.

"Best" Music Festivals

MSN decided that they know something about music (they don't) and compiled a list of the world's "best" fests.
Here's their list:

1. Bumbershoot
2. Edinburgh International Festival
3. Essaouira Gnaoua and World Music Festival
4. Exit Music Festival
5. Fuji Rock Festival
6. Glastonbury
7. Monterey Jazz Festival
8. SÓNAR
9. Spoleto Festival

Seeing as how I know next to nothing about most of these, I can't judge the list except for the fact that Bumbershoot tops it which means the list can't be good even if some are decent.
Now for my usual Gogol Bordello connection: they've been confirmed for both Bumbershoot (along with Wu-Tang Clan and DeVotchKa) and Glastonbury.

Bad Music Week

Last week suck plain and simple. First of all Mr. Randolph bailed on us to go to fat city USA (Milwaaaaaaaaaaaaukkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee) but it turns out the week was even worse. One of my favorite bands Raccoo-oo-oon were in New England for not one, but five shows, and I didn't find out about it till today (but it's ok because the only show in Boston was cancelled). Oh and as if last week couldn't get any worse Method Man was busted with 28 grams of pot (about an ounce).

Dinosaur Jr

As previously mentioned Dinosaur Jr will be playing a free show in Harvard Square at the Urban Outfitters there on June 11th. But not for some new info. The show will be at 8:00pm. In order to go to the show you need to print out a voucher at http://www.freeyrradio.com. The voucher does not guarantee entry to the show as space is limited, so I plan on getter to Harvard Square mad early. As June 11th approaches I'll straighten out my planes till then peace.

Bumbershoot '07

Just a notice about Bumbershoot (Seattle: September 1-3):
Wu-Tang Clan, Gogol Bordello, and DeVotchKa are confirmed.
It's definitely not worth going to though. Many terrible bands are playing and after all, it's in Seattle.

Manu Chao Tour

Manu Chao will be playing at the Avalon on June 24th (Sunday @ 7:00) and I've heard that Gogol Bordello will be opening. I need to confirm this but I will definitely go if this is true. Tickets are a little expensive for the Avalon ($30) but it's worth it.
Once I find out if Gogol is playing, tell me if you want to go.

Also, it says that Radio Bemba Sound System is playing but I always thought that that was the name of one of Manu Chao's albums. If not, then I guess it's the same band with 1 or 2 different members.

Edit: All ages by the way

If you though the rollings stone's list of albums of the year was bad...

So every week I get email from Newbury Comics about deals on CD's, well this week they were advertising a list of the 200 'definitive' to complete your collection presented by the rock n roll hall of fame. Naturally the list is horrendous. Here are a few of my problems with the aforementioned list. The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin have a total of 15 albums on the list. NWA's masterpiece is 108 far behind Eminem's the Marshall Mather Ep. That take me to my next point some genre's of music are just stuck together in clumps. Case in point: 28. EMINEM-Marshall Mathers Lp OUTKAST-Speakerboxx-Love Below 30. DR. DRE-Chronic 31. BEASTIE BOYS-Licensed To Ill Or: 10. NIRVANA-Nevermind 11. PEARL JAM-Ten. The list includes: 2 Greenday albums, Jewel, Kid Rock, Creed, and Avril Lavigne. Some good bands had the wrong album on the list Radiohead had OK Computer (instead of Kid A, Hail to The Thief, or The Bends). Needless to say the list contains no bands signed to independent labels. For the entire crap list go here: http://www.newbury.com/newsletter/definitive200.htm

In good news Be Your Own Pet will be playing an all ages show at the Avalon on May 13th. Of course I'm stoked (a word used far to little) but there is one problem, I believe they I co headlining with The Arctic Monkeys. Oh well, Be Your Own Pet are supposed to be insane live. If anyone wants tickets tell me.

Shows you can't got to VOL II

So I saw that Times New Viking were coming to town so I got excited I then saw that of course they were playing an 18+ show. That's ok there are other cool bands coming to Boston soon take The Thermals oh wait they're playing a second 18+ show hear in support of their latest album. What about Menomena? No wait there at Great Scott another friendly 18+ venue. Surely some one will play a show I can go to with out purchasing a fake ID. But don't worry there is one band I can see! Dr. Dog playing an 18+ show in Boston, but making up for it by playing two other all ages shows in New England (and an 18+ show) of course I will either need to go to Vermont or North Hampton to go to them. So thank you booking agents and thank you Boston Club owners for making it so damn hard for high schoolers to go to shows. Now yes, there are plenty of all ages shows happening, but still when so many different bands that I really want to see play 18+ shows it pisses me off. Till next time...

Gogol Bordello for Bonnaroo

Gogol Bordello and Manu Chao (they're French, not Asian) are going to play at Bonnaroo. Too bad the rest of the bands aren't as good.
